Have You Checked Online? A Degree in Marketing Does’t Come Cheap!
I know how frustrating it can be to gather decent information on the internet when it comes to your education. So, to save you from wasting your time searching for an online marketing degree, I’m going to give you a link to bestvalueschools that covers the
Top 9 Cheap Online Internet Marketing Degree Programs (2014)
Cost: $2,700-$22,000+ (per year that is!)
Hmmm…let’s think on that for a minute. You won’t earn your degree in one year, right? Nope..
This avenue is going to take you at least 3 or 4 years to complete, and that’s if you’re doing it full-time.
Let’s do the math, shall we? We’ll even go with the lease expensive way to go to get what it is we want:
Ashworth College – “Bachelor of Science in EBusiness”
3 years of school x $2,700 per year (2 semesters ea.) = $8,100.00!!
This is just an estimate. It does NOT include the price of registration, any required labs, books, or computer hardware/software you might need to complete the required classes, etc. We’re looking to spend more than just the base price to receive the final credentials. Sounds fair, doesn’t it?
So maybe you don’t like to go the “cheap” route…you don’t think you would be happy with the quality of the course studies or whatever it is that makes you want to “go big or go home”, OK! I get it! Let’s see…
Full Sail University (Studio) – “Internet Marketing – Bachelor of Science Degree Online”
3 years x $22,088 per year = $66,264.oo*
*”Tuition costs do run higher than other online programs, but the quality of the education makes it a worthy investment.
Full Sail was named the FAPSC “School of the Year” by the Florida Association of Post-secondary Schools and Colleges and was given a “21st Century Best Practices in Distance Learning” award by the United States Distance Learning Association” (bestvalueschools.com)
This covers both ends of the spectrum related to online courses in marketing. Looks like you could go “low-end” and pay out around $10k or you could go “All In” and take the high road (and by that I mean high priced road) and drop an enormous $67 THOUSAND to get a full-blown education in internet marketing! And that probably includes a bunch of courses that have nothing to do with marketing! Whew!
Now, my question to you is this…
“Do you need to have a Online Degree in Marketing
to DO Internet Marketing?”
YOUR answer may be a resounding “Yes!” But, what I’d like to say to that is this – you have been taught all of your life that you need to go to school for 13 years (K-12), pass lots of tests, then spend thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars per year to go to college for another 2-6 years (Associate vs. Ph.D.), which can add up to HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of dollars (if you consider loans + interest) over the course of your lifetime.
In case you didn’t know, there are still millions of people in their 50’s and 60’s who haven’t paid off their student loans!! WHAT? Don’t believe me?
From ConsumerAffairs.com:
“A report by the New York Federal Reserve showed that in 2012, the last year for which there are records, 4.7 million people who owe money on student loans are between and ages of 50 and 59. Perhaps more of a surprise, 2.2 million are age 60 and older.”

Next Question…Is it worth it?
The Fed examined this question in a recent report, “Do the Benefits of College Still Outweigh the Costs?” The report seemingly concluded that they can for some, (which I would dare to say is debatable on its merits), and we at least agree that it’s not the case for everyone. And honestly, the ROI (Return On Investment) may be equitable for a few, but how much time is needed to get there?
There ARE Other Options to Learn Internet Marketing
I went through K-12 and completed about 24 credits of community college, but if you’re anything like me, you didn’t have the tens of thousands of dollars to pay for a full-blown college education.
As for me, I’ve spent the last two and one-half years learning from the internet marketing industry itself. From the movers and the shakers, from the experts in the fields of blogging, video production, social media marketing, you name it. No matter what it is you want to learn, there are “teachers” out there teaching.
However, you need to know who you’re dealing with and know that you’re getting an education and not a pitch to buy the next “internet marketing course” or be sucked in with the “next big launch” that tries to make claims that you’ll learn everything you need to know and that you’ll be making thousands of dollars in only a couple of months. That’s just NOT gonna happen in this industry.

See you in class!
Hi Leland,
I have just managed to pay off my college loan – all of it – last month, with a bit of help from my retirement fund. The debt that put me through all the hard work is not funny.
I mean, being hardworking is one thing, but working 6 days a week to pay of your debt is not the way of life that I want to live.
Factor in inflation and all, it’s really hard to do any savings and I am speaking from a professional degree here.
If I have known what I know now, I would have taken the entrepreneur route, build an online business to create a long term residual income that can help reduce the burden of my debt at the same time enjoy my life.
But those internet marketing courses that you mentioned is absurd! You’ll just put yourself through another round of debt. Better off learning something that is online and practical like the training offered by WA.
I do believe you are the epitome of my post, Cathy! So sorry to hear about your experience with college debt. I was somewhat fortunate enough to get about 24 credits of college before looking at needing funding, but by then I was working full-time in engineering and within 10 years was on my own running a home-based business. Not many get that chance.
You still have the rest of your life to reach your goals and dreams as an entrepreneur! My best to you on achieving everything you want while on that journey! There is no doubt in my mind that Wealthy Affiliate can take you there!
yes, its so much freaking money to go to school for marketing, and what do you get? Tactics that you could have EASILY learned on your own, not even the hard stuff. The problem is, by the time the “master marketer” steps foot in a class room, there is already a new way of doing things. It’s best to just get the training forthe likes of WA or something similar.

Kind of crazy isn’t it Matt?
I have heard a lot about WA and i have checked it out and can not find anything negative about but are people really earning money at it i have not found any ref to any one actually earning ? but what i can see on your site sounds really good what would the best way to start an online business be ?
Hey Jimmi, thanks for the comment. I’ll try to elaborate enough to make it easy to understand.
Wealthy Affiliate (WA) is actually one of the best affiliate marketer’s training platforms you’ll ever find, combined with an affiliate program to get others involved. The reason you’re not seeing much in way of people making money with WA is because the primary income method is NOT selling WA to others. It’s normally generated through affiliate programs (Amazon, Walmart, private merchants, etc.)
What they teach is how to pick a niche in the online world (let’s say “dog grooming” for instance). You then work through the platform which as a starter member (free account) gives you free hosting for 2 sites and 10 free site building course, or you can jump in head first and go premium within 7 days you’ll get a month’s worth for $19, then it’s $47/mo. thereafter. (Or the way I went on Premium was $359/yr.) Here’s a link to give you a little better idea http://wa.lelandbest.com, just scroll down the page and it should explain it better.
I’ve been in several programs in the past, but after finding WA, I plan on sticking around for a long time. I’ve built several sites, learned things I’ve never seen in other courses and I’m making money on my sites with Adsense and other affiliate programs.
If you have any other questions, just let me know. I’ll be glad to answer them all for you if I can.
