Sales vs. Marketing – A Difference by Comparison
Allow me to take a moment to point out the differences between sales & marketing, these are really two antithetical concepts. This is perhaps one of the most critical distinctions that every marketer should understand fully. If they don’t, it could cost them their business title in the end. (ie. would you rather be known as a “Salesman” or a “Marketer”?)
The Old Sales Paradigm
The simple fact is that the old way of building a networking business took the use of a different set of skills:
- It required one to be a salesperson
- It required investing hours of phone time
- It meant “running through the numbers”…
- It caused a LOT of rejection!
That is the old paradigm of “pitching a sale”, it no longer works in this day and age and it’s just not effective at all anymore. People LOVE to buy things, they just HATE being sold to…
However, the fact is this is really good news! Because as a marketer progresses in their studies of marketing, they should be able to learn and begin to understand a new method of marketing and learn to grasp how psychology infuses this business and how to create it in everything they do.
In the past we were always approaching people who were not entrepreneurs. Another truth is that you can’t change somebody who has an employee mentality into an entrepreneur with a sales letter or a phone call…
So why did we bother?
What every marketer needs to do now is focus on the 3% of the population that is naturally entrepreneurial. Of course when we compare sales vs marketing, you’ll find a large discrepancy in the information you’ll receive from network marketing companies, there are many that still actually keep you away from marketing on the internet! Rather, they want you to target everyone you know….Make a list…even look in the yellowpages. I believe they just don’t want you stealing their leads!
How messed up is that?!
So when you throw out all the garbage “pitch tactics” and truly understand marketing – you can begin to focus on the 3% or so of people who are real action takers – who are entrepreneurial – buyers who are already in the proper mindset to build a prospering business.
The Law of Attraction
A concept known as “attraction marketing” has been the elephant in the room for the past several years. Seems to have come to light through two major sources, one a movie, another a book. If you’d like to sit back for a few and soak in the origins of this idea that “what you put out into the universe, comes back to you”, then you’ll probably enjoy this:
The second source, a book written by Mike Dillard, is called “Magnetic Sponsoring”. This book is unlike anything you’ll ever get your hands on when it comes to building a network marketing or MLM business.
In Amazon’s description (and I quote):
“This is NOT a book for people who want to follow the herd, or get average results handing out samples, holding home parties, or buying leads. It is for the few who want to become leaders in this industry. Who want to walk across the stage, and who want to earn 7-figures. It is for those who would rather be the hunted than the hunter. Who prefer to work smarter, instead of harder. Who want to build a life-long business, instead of an opportunity, and for those who value truth over hype. If you’re tired of chasing your friends and family members, posting fliers on phone poles, cold calling leads, and handing out business cards, then Magnetic Sponsoring is exactly what you’ve been looking for.”
Mike Dillard, considered more than just a guru of attraction marketing, has made over $50 million dollars online as a network marketer (and more by now). He is considered a “go-to” by many of the marketing “elite”. Mike speaks about his own book in these words:
“In this book, I will teach you… – How to get an endless number of prospects to call you, with credit card in hand ready to buy your product, or join your business. – How to create a life-long business with zero competition. – How to make income whether your prospects join your business or not. – How to legitimately produce endless leads for free. – How to create automated marketing systems that sell and recruit for you. – How to sponsor top industry leaders instead of tire-kickers. – How to become an Alpha man or woman that people respect and follow. – How I used these strategies to make over $50 million online, and become the #1 Residual Income Earner in my opportunity. Thank you for your leadership.”
After all, no matter what program or compensation matrix you become a part of, you will always get rewarded for bringing in people who are the best at building business, not just bringing in sign-ups that cancel in a week’s time because they were sold a bag of goods that weren’t really that good.
There are loads of people who moan and groan about having to work the corporate scene – but most of these same complainers will never become entrepreneurs. This is the key that will unlock your prospects and keep you from having to deal with the rejection that tends to destroy most people’s chances at “making it” in network marketing.
Watch the movie…get the book, then you’ll know the difference…you won’t regret it.
My Best to your Attractiveness,
